RetroGRADE Review

I've decided to post my review of RetroGRADE directly onto my blog. Sorry of the other posts were getting annoying, I just kinda get paid now for reviews on there. Well here's my review.

RetroGrade is a Science Fiction movie about Two time travelers with opposing views are sent back to the present aboard a research ship in the Antarctic to prevent a global biological disaster from occurring. (IMDB.com)

The Sci-Fi Channel called, they want their crappy original movie back. As you see from my first statement I felt as if RetroGrade was a pretty bad film. No I don’t think that all Sci-Fi/Sy Fy original movies are all bad, just a majority of them for the past five to ten years or so. Well the film is about some guys in the future who are supposed to go back in time from 2204 to 2004 to prevent some scientists from finding a meteorite, by destroying it. Apparently this meteorite has some sort of bacteria in it that causes your skin to boil from the inside, and make you go bat shit insane.

I’m sorry but the plot isn’t very good in my opinion, it really does feel like a Sci-Fi original movie plot. On top of that some of the editing was a little choppy, with some minor continuity errors. Also a lot of the special effects weren’t very good at all, and the last nails in the coffin were that a lot of the acting, and the choreographed fights weren’t very good.

Over all I give RetroGrade a 3 out of 10. it does get some bonus points for having Dolph Lungren, and having a Star Trek pinball machine in the background of the scene with the infected pot-head going insane. The only reason why you’d want to see this movie, is if you like Dolph Lungren a lot. it’s sad when you pay $4 for a movie and you still want your money back.

SAW 5 Disc UnRated Collector's Set

I just picked up the 5 disc unrated collector's set of the Saw Series. In doing this I decided to do a little Saw Marathon. I have to admit some of my complaints about it would have to stand corrected, but I'll talk about that in a min. I've decided to do a review of the series. I would also like to do a little review on each film.

Well the first thing I do want to say about the Saw series is that before I picked up the five movie pack, I had only seen the first two movies, when they were in theaters. Since its been so long, I should have expected that I could remembered things wrong, and end up being wrong on a couple complaints I had about it. Okay, well I suppose I should tell you what these complaints were. My biggest complaint I had was that in Saw 2 they completely ignored the whole concept of why they called him Saw in the first place. Well I have to say that I stand corrected on this one. Watching it again, it's actually one of the first things that they do, I must have not noticed it while in the theater, the first time or something. The other was that the second one just wasn't original enough to even compare with "Saw". On this I have to say I may have been a little to critical, but it does suffer from sequel syndrome. In most cases with the first sequel of any movie has this issue, it's a rare occasion where the sequel is as good or even better than the original. I never really had any complaints about the first Saw film. At the time it was original and new, and I still stand by that.

Well after the first two Saw movies, I didn't watch any until now. So now I have finally seen all the Saw movies that are on DVD at this time. I'm going to rate them from one to ten. One being a waste of time and money, five being an average movie, and ten being perfect. I will also give a 1 to 10 review on the collector's set in total.

Saw had an original concept, it kept you questioning things, and the pacing was great. It kept up my enjoyment of the film, and kept my attention. I would have to give the film a 7.5 out of 10.

Saw II suffered from the sequel issue that most sequels suffer from. It's not original anymore. The story to it wasn't as good. The only characters you might be able to find any sympathy for are Daniel Matthews (Erik Knudsen), and Jonas (Glenn Plummer). Though personally my favorite character was Eric Matthews (Donnie Wahlberg), even though he screwed up anyway. In the end I give this film a 5 out of 10. It was an average film, at least I didn't walk out wanting my money back.

Saw III was undeniably better than it's last predecessor. I really liked how it brought all of them together. That is one thing I like to see in a lot of films, is how some can interconnect. I also liked that they brought back Donnie Wahlberg in this. One thing I wasn't happy with was how the first trap scene was done. That scene with the guy, with the chains connected to different parts of his body, the editing of that wasn't very good. They had too much repeating of the same exact sound fx, and I believe the continuity wasn't very good either on it. Other than that I really enjoyed it, I give it a 7 out of 10.

Saw IV was a film that didn't make sense to do, but it worked. There isn't much to say about this one, other than that I did like how they put this one together. I also liked how they brought in another person who was helping Jigsaw, it wasn't perfect in how they did it, but it worked. I give this film a 6.5 out of 10.

Saw V was the last Saw film I've seen thus far. This one felt like they were running out of ideas, but it still worked... barely. Don't get me wrong I did enjoy it, but I saw the ending coming, at this point it's starting to feel a little repetitive. All in all I give Saw V a 5.5 out of 10.

In total for the 5 Disc UnRated Collector's Set I give it a 6.5. It gets bonus points for commentaries, and some cool special features. Thus kicking up to a 7 or of 10 in total. Yeah I like special features, and commentaries. That it for now catch you guys later.

Would-be Ford assassin 'Squeaky' Fromme moving to Marcy - Utica, NY - The Observer-Dispatch

I know this post is kinda a little late compared to when the story was done in the newspaper but just now I felt the need to post something on it. The reason I've taken interest on this story is because it involves my home town Marcy, and yes I do still live there. It's cool that a celebrity has moved to my town. Maybe she can keep it from being over populated, I don't want to many people from moving here, I kinda like the woods we have around here, they're good for shooting films in. lol. That's all I really have to say for now. See you guys later.

Survival Of The Dead

I just heard about George A. Romero's new film "Survival Of The Dead". I can't wait to see it. Supposedly it comes out this year in the USA. It seems to have at western feel to it a little. I happen to be a fan of those so I like the idea of it.
I read some of the comments people have left on a couple of the videos I have watched on youtube, and some of them are hating on it. They say it looks like crap and things along that train of thought. People do have to understand, when you're watching a behind the scenes video, you're not going to get the same feel as you are with the actual movie. Sorry I felt the need to defend George's honor. That's all I have to say for now, so I guess I'll post the trailer and the behind the scenes video I found on youtube.

Film Fest

The Film Fest went well on Aug. 14th. We had a great turn out. The theater we had could sit over 100 people and we filled that up, and had to bring in more chairs for people, and even that wasn't enough. So the first thing I have to say is Thanks to all of you who showed up that night.
In the next order of business. We are going to put on another Film Fest in early October. This one is for some of the Films that weren't finished on time. At this one we might even have an awards ceremony. Once we know more I'll update you all. Thanks again to everyone who made it to the last one. Hope you all can join us again for this one coming up.

On Film In General

The film world has changed over the years. There are more and more Indie filmmakers like myself and many of you. The Internet has brought a whole new way to find your target crowd.

The Internet has also brought something else. It has created a group of people who watch Internet videos. There is nothing wrong with this at all, but in some cases from people I've spoken to who land in this group, they will sit there for hours watching 2 min videos, but they can't always watch a full length movie. They don't have the patience, and if they do have the patience they don't care so much about watching it in the theater. They'll netflix it, or get it on iTunes for their iPod. Granted not everyone in this group are like this, but it does scare me a little.

I have always had the belief that the best way to experience a film is on the big screen. My father used to take my little brother and me to see movies in theaters all the time. You get to sit with a crowd of people, who are going to experience it with you. Everyone reacts to the same things you are. You jump, laugh, yelp, with everyone. It's a bonding experience. You can't beat what it's like.

So when people say that they'll netflix a movie they really want to see scares me. It's telling me that the big screen experience could start to die out. I know that there are too many people out there today who feel the same way I do, for it to go quickly, but it can eventually be a possibility.

Well that's it for now. I now do a video blog/podcast look it up on iTunes, just go to the iTunes store and look up Round Table Reels. It's free to subscribe!
